Coralville Lake

Saturday we were finally able to make it out to Coralville Lake and go boating. The first for us as a family this year. Boy, where has the time gone?! I was nervous about how Jackson would handle being out in the hot sun for about 5 hours. He was an angel - in fact he is better boating than when he's at home. Jason and I tried to get back into the groove of waterskiing and wakeboarding. Today, we're both so sore we can barely move. Guess we are way out of shape. Jackson loved swimming, though he was a little nervous at first being surrounded by so much water and lots of boats whizzing by him. All in all, a wonderful day at the Lake. Can't wait until next time!

Arts Fest

Jackson, Jason and I enjoyed going to Arts Fest in downtown Iowa City this year. One of the highlights for us was being able to listen to the music played live on the ped mall.

I did it!

For the last year, I've had a goal to bike from our home to the Coralville Lake and back. That's about 14 miles round trip. I know it's no Tour de France or RAGBRAI, but for me, it was something. So, last Saturday, I started out on Little Red (the three-decades-old bike belonging to my father-in-law) for what I thought would be a 4-6 mile ride. But, I had a lot of energy and thought it was finally going to be the day I attempted it. I loved the ride. There were a couple of hills that I didn't particularly care for, but I felt great when I finished. Most of all, I am grateful I could accomplish a goal - albeit it a small one - that I set.

Road Trip

Monday evening we took a road trip. Jason was interviewing for a fellowship position and we decided to make it a family excursion. Jackson - for the most part - was an angel although we will always remember the oatmeal episode at a rural exit in Iowa. Poor guy. I can't imagine what the motorists thought when they saw two parents trying to feed their son oatmeal on the side (albeit safely off the exit) of the Interstate. In our defense, he needed needed more than Similac and Gerber puffs. In summary, ackson and I had a great time exploring while Jason interviewed. We loved spending time together as a family, and I might add, the shopping was fantastic! The highlight of my shopping spree (if you can call it that when the goods were food and buying bulk formula) was going to COSTCO. Yes, COSTCO. I sure miss that store. The closest to Iowa City is two hours away. Anyway, we had a great road trip and learned Jackson can survive sitting in his car seat for the better part of eight hours. Yes, eight hours. So happy to have this time to bond with my two boys.

Happy Father's Day

Jason, Happy Father's Day. You are such a wonderful dad. Thank you for all you do for Jackson and me. We love you! And, a special Father's Day note to my dad and to Jason's dad. Your examples teach us much and we thank you for your countless sacrifices for us. We love you!

Mobile Little Man

Jackson tried to crawl on May 5. This is a picture of his first attempt. But, it wasn't until June 4 that he really got the hang of it. Now, he's unstoppable. He pulls himself up on furniture and likes to explore things all throughout our home. He's even walked a few steps on his own but soon after did a face plant into the floor.

Sick Boy

A couple of weeks ago Jackson spiked a 102.7 fever coupled with a rash all over his body. He didn't each much for three or four days. One morning, Jason woke up early to tend to Jackson. Here's what I found when I woke up. Yes, that's Jason inside Jackson's crib. Very sweet.
